Attempting to Machine a Supercharger...
A Junior Year One-Semester Class Project
What's a great way to test freshly learned CAD/CAM skills? By trying to build a supercharger for a Pontiac V6, of course! Specifically, with a two-part aluminum case, and carbon fiber reinforced HDPE rotors. It was a ridiculous endeavor, and despite many all-nighters we -- a 3-person team I led -- never got to properly test and finish it. But we did rapidly learn a LOT about 3 and 4 axis CNC machining!
The Finished Rotor Core
The Finished Rotor Core
The finished rotor, machined on a 4-axis CNC. This is before we attempted to vacuum bag CF onto it... that turned out badly...
Machining the Case
Machining the Case
Machining the case in a 3-axis Haas Mini-Mill. Required machining on all four sides -- note the jigs! Turned out good though: fit well and everything!
